Which
connections can be used?
Company
Network
The system allows you to connect the DVR to a company's
network and load our work station software on other
PCs connected to the network through LAN or internet.
The work station software requires each user to sign
on with a name and password. The password allows a system
administration to control each users access to specific
cameras and individual system functions. This design
allows the DVR to be installed in a secure server room
or electrical closet but have the convenience of accessing
and managing the system right from your office PC.
Broadband
Internet
With DSL or cable, the on-site DVR is connected to the
internet through the network connection port of the
DVR. The internet provider will assign an address for
that connection called- the IP address or number. Client
[DVR Software] operates with both “static”
and “dynamic” IP addresses. The static addresses
are much more reliable as dynamic addresses require
periodic maintenance every couple of weeks. We recommend
using static IP address. The DVR can then be accessed
using nothing more than a remote PC connected to the
internet and a web browser (ie: Internet explorer).
Typing in the IP address will direct you to the DVR.
If the password features are enabled, the user will
be required to type in their User Name and Password
before access is granted.
Dial-Up
Our remote access software needs to be installed on
the remote PC or Laptop which is connected to a standard
phone line. The phone number which the on-site DVR is
attached to is loaded into our remote software along
with the users name and password. The system then automatically
dials the number, connects with the on-site DVR and
starts streaming the live video to the remote PC. This
type of connection is useful with four or less cameras.
If more than four cameras are to be viewed remotely
we highly suggest you use the internet with a DSL or
Cable connection. The reason is the amount of data that
one video frame consists of is equal to a 50 page word
document. In other words if you want to transmit multiple
frames of video per second (10-12) you must use a communication
link that can handle the large amount of data like DSL
or Cable.
.

How
do I see pictures from a remote site?
You can view the camera video over the internet using
a modem which is slow but can display 1 or 2 frames
every 5 seconds. It is better to have a DSL or cable
modem connection which can generally display 1 frame
per second. When viewing remotely, the refresh rate
is restricted by the communications medium (your internet
connection speed). When viewing or playing back locally,
the display is dependent on the unit's frame rate (fps).
You will need a static IP address assigned to the DVR.
